Deadliest Catch – Put Up or Shut Up

by Mikey

We are into week 4 of the King Crab season and the best part of this last episode, and by far the best part of this season, was the advertisement they had for the Deadliest Catch mother’s day marathon.  There’s nothing quite like Captain Phil saying, “Happy Fucking Mothers Day”. Of course it’s the discovery channel so they bleeped out the best part but it was still great.

The Final 3 on Hells Kitchen

by Mikey

We are nearing the finale and thank goodness.  This has been a rough season to watch.  I think Gordon may have to do a Hells Kitchen from somewhere else and find a new talent pool.  This whole season I’ve been comparing these guys to the Top chef contestants and maybe that’s my mistake.  Maybe they really want that whole rags to riches thing to happen.

last-31

We start off from last week waiting for whatever surprise Gordon has for them.  Again, I was hoping it would be Rampage Jackson blasting out of the kitchen to fight the last 3 finalists, but instead it was just their families coming out to hug and cry with them.  This isn’t the kind of crying I like.  I want down home, American, why are you all rejecting me, I’m breaking down emotionally kind of crying. Raise your glass to the Katmai! Deadliest Catch

by Mikey

B-hizzle wasn’t able to catch the last episode of deadliest catch because he had a meeting with the President in regard to making the word “Hella” the official word of California.  Lucky for you guys, being the constant couch potato and armchair crab fisherman I did catch it.

The 3rd episode, one of the most sobering of the shows correctly phrased, “Stay focused or die”, really kind of brought down the mood of the usually cheerfull show. This truly is the worlds most dangerous job. Continue reading

Too Much Saffron on Hells Kitchen

by Mikey

We are down to the last 4 chefs on Hells Kitchen and it starts off with Ben breathing a sigh of relief that Ramsey would rather kick off Andrea then kick him off.  I still feel you could probably kick off Ben and then kick off Andrea next week because neither one is really good.

Last of the Great Fat Guys on Hells Kitchen

by Mikey

Hell’s kitchen continued right where we left it last week, with Gordon telling the chefs he’s closing down Hells Kitchen.  We all gasp at this incredible announcement, right? Right? Nope we don’t.  In fact, we are all pretty used to most of the so called huge announcements on this show just being reality one liners.  Yes, he is closing Hells Kitchen, but only so the group can go on a field trip to the Borgata.  It’s a chance to see where only one of them will be a chef and the others will just look in with their face pressed up against the glass.

Deadliest Catch and the Deep Blue Sea

by Brian

Tonight, Mikey and I are premiering a new weekly column for the site.  With Hell’s Kitchen winding down (thank god) we are proactively filling the void with a show that’s actually worth watching: Deadliest Catch.  This weekly column will probably go up on Wednesdays, but because I was retarded and forgot to tivo the 1st episode, I had to wait until tonight to watch the rerun.  Each week, it is my hope that we can not only give a little commentary on the show, but also a review on the culinary bounty that is the ocean.  First the show, then the review… enjoy!

Shows that make you wanna eat

by Mikey

I am taking a day off from throwing another food joint at you to go over something that I realized while watching the Sopranos. If any of you have ever watched the show, you know that Carmella spends half the show in the kitchen whipping up Italian dishes.  Along with her you have Artie cooking all the time and most of the cast is usually eating or drinking.  As I’m watching I look down and realize I’m eating the lasagna I just made the night before.  Everytime I watch this show I want to eat something.  They have such great food on the show that it actually drives something in my brain to eat.  I guess that’s better than the other vices on the show.  I haven’t started threatening the locals for protection money or working out of a strip club.  Though the latter has some appeal.

The top of my list is probably the Sopranos.  What else hits that impulse in your brain?
