Breakfast at Jim and Rob’s Fresh Grill

by Mikey

We need more places around the area that give us a decent breakfast for a good price, that isn’t fast food and isn’t the highly marketed 10 minute “eat it and then get out ’cause we need the table for the next group” kinda place. I think I found a good option in Ventura that has a simple menu, good prices and fresh ingredients.  Plus, it’s next to a cool little coffee joint called Caffrodite’s.

Jim & Rob’s Fresh Grill – Main St not to far from Ventura High school

You’re gonna have to keep a sharp eye out for them, but they are right on a corner. They look more like a taco stand than a place to get breakfast, but they have great outside seating.  Ventura is a place that’s perfect for outside seating.  The weather changes are, for the most part, very small.  So most of the time you actually want to be outside enjoying a great meal.

There are no servers here.  It’s an order it and then pick it up kind of place, which means you only have to tip the cooks if you want to.  The food is pretty good though, so you’ll probably want to give them a tip.  I enjoyed my breakfast so much that I gave them a great tip. “Never play leap frog with a unicorn!” Now if that’s not a good tip then I don’t know what is. Healthy Fish Tacos and Not So Healthy Desserts

by Brian

I can’t let Mikey be the fish taco guy for the site.  I just can’t.  Not when I’ve only just begun to have an appreciation for them.  So in response to Mikey’s fish taco ecstacy at Spencer Makenzie’s, I decided to take on a healthier fish taco in a quaint little mexican place in Westlake Village.

The Sea Casa

The Sea Casa – Corner of Westlake and Agoura Rd. Westlake Village

I had seen this place quite a few times, but resisted going in because there are so many great mexican food options around.  It wasn’t until a friend told me they had the best shrimp tacos that I really took an interest. Continue reading

My Raw Foods Adventure

by Brian

Yesterday I took the whole health food kick to a completely new high (or low, depending on how you look at it).  My little sister was down from UC Santa Cruz for spring break and suggested that we hit up this little raw, vegan, organic restaurant called Leaf Cuisine.

Since I don’t like to hit a place completely unaware, I did a little research on Yelp and found out that they have been getting mostly good reviews.  In fact, a number of people were raving about the “Flying Falafel” which is what I ended up ordering.  Here are my thoughts on Leaf Cuisine… Continue reading

Follow your stomach to Follow Your Heart

by Brian

At the urging of several friends, I ventured into the San Fernando Valley this afternoon to tackle health food from one of the original restaurants in the genre.  This is the place that invented veganaise, which as you can imagine is the vegan equivalent of mayo.  I don’t like mayo, and I don’t eat mayo, but I respect the fact that these peeps are breaking barriers.

Anyway, it was a bit of a trek, but since this week is weight reduction awareness week (see how I keep changing names) without further ado, I give you Follow Your Heart.

Return of the Natural Cafe

by Brian

Hey everybody, it was a long weekend for me so I’m gonna keep this post short and sweet.  Today, I decided to hit up the Natural Cafe in Thousand Oaks.  It’s got a totally different vibe from the Simi location, which is nice.  Plus, where else can you see a skinny, hippy lookin’ white kid go from eating vegan food to rollin’ a Range Rover on dubs in 2.5 seconds.  Gotta love T.O.
