Our Own Little Kitchen Nightmare.

by Brian

Mikey and I started this blog mostly because we were bored and unemployed.  Now we’re neither.  In the interim we’ve managed to eat some good food, some not so good food, and meet a ton of really cool people.

Thanks to one of our readers, Michelle of ThePeevery.com, we might even get our 15 minutes of fame.  You see, Michelle is an avid yelper and is just generally pissed off about a lot of things (probably because she’s about to pop out a kid any day now).  One of the things that really got her going was her experience at Mama Rita’s in Newbury Park and the producers of a certain Gordon Ramsey fronted show found her review and invited her to come to Mama Rita’s Grand Re-opening.  She was gracious enough to invite Mikey and myself to the fun and it was all down hill from there.  Continue reading

Brian fell off the wagon and landed on Chili Cheese Fries

by Brian

I have to start this post by saying thanks to Mikey.  Your goddamned mini sirloin burger post has me craving all kinds of junk food.  I didn’t even think they looked appetizing, it was that freaking jingle that set me off.  But rather then go full-on into the fast food, I decided to seek out a fast food alternative and one of Thousand Oaks’ hidden gems.

P & L Burgers – On Avenida De Los Arboles between Erbes and the 101, Thousand Oaks

P&LBurgers

I wasn’t in the mood for a burger since Mikey and I grilled up some great ones on Monday.  I guess that was the start of the problem.  But rather than ignore it, in the vain hope that it will go away, I decided to embrace the craving. Continue reading

Deadliest Catch – Down to the Wire

by Mikey

We are in the final week of the king crab season and the boats are all scrambling to make their quotas before the market prices drop too low.  The Time Bandit finished up last week, meeting their quota.  The rest of the fleet has one last week to get on the crab.

Memorial Day

by Mikey

Hey everyone, we are taking the day off today, to cook up some burgers, drink some beer and toast to the men and women who make it all possible.

Here’s to you, our brave, bad, and bold, honorable fallen men and women of the United States Military.  We at EatMeCalifornia raise our glasses to the freedoms and ideals you have kept safe for us!

Make sure you guys are eating, drinking and being merry.  Just don’t party so much you wake up naked next to a cross eyed llama, with a wedding ring on your finger, covered in scrabble pieces, wondering what the hell happened because you don’t even play scrabble.

Simi Cajun Festival ’09 – Gator Does Not Taste Like Chicken

by Brian

I’ve been looking forward to this day for quite a while.  The Oxnard Strawberry Festival was just a warm up.

The Simi Valley Cajun Festival is easily the best thing going on in Simi all year.  I love spicy food, I love peoplewatching, I love exotic meats served on sticks.  Therefore, this is as close as I’m ever going to get to heaven.  Plus it’s in Simi.

Simi Valley Cajun, Creole Music Festival – Rancho Santa Susana park near Sterns St. in Simi Valley

I’ve been to this festival before, but I never realized it was a music festival.  I guess the multiple stages should have tipped me off, but they didn’t.  I think what finally did the trick was this guy:

Jimi Hendrix cover bands are awesome!

Jimi Hendrix cover bands are awesome!

But for me, it’s always been about the food.  I am a fan of all things Cajun: hot links, jambalaya, crawfish, gumbo and after trying it for the first time, gator on a stick. Continue reading

Sex, Lies, and Mini Sirloin Burgers

by Mikey

We are starting a new feature here at EatMeCalifornia.  We want to find out if all these fast food superpowers think we are all just food gobbling idiots who don’t pay attention to what their product is supposed to look like.  I’m tired of seeing commercials and pictures of food that does not exist here on Earth.  The videos and photos that they are showing us, which entice us to give their next big meal a try, are misleading.  Now, of course we already know that the man wants us to buy his 6 dollar burgers and will show us sexy burgers all covered with tomato, onion, and cheese.  What the man doesn’t know is that I’m showin’ photos of the real burgers right here.  I’m going to prove that their beauty queen, sexy burgers are really malnourished, meth addicted, second cousins twice removed.

The first meal in my scope is the mini sirloin burger from Jack in the Box.  Jack in the Box is definitely on the front lines of marketing, with pretty great commercials featuring mini cows and cowboys and even including a damn catchy jingle.  But is it all based on a lie? Continue reading

Healthy Fish Tacos and Not So Healthy Desserts

by Brian

I can’t let Mikey be the fish taco guy for the site.  I just can’t.  Not when I’ve only just begun to have an appreciation for them.  So in response to Mikey’s fish taco ecstacy at Spencer Makenzie’s, I decided to take on a healthier fish taco in a quaint little mexican place in Westlake Village.

The Sea Casa

The Sea Casa – Corner of Westlake and Agoura Rd. Westlake Village

I had seen this place quite a few times, but resisted going in because there are so many great mexican food options around.  It wasn’t until a friend told me they had the best shrimp tacos that I really took an interest. Continue reading
