First off, many thanks to my boy B for taking over for a few days while I dealt with some business. As it turns out I’m not a direct descendant of Elvis Presley. Oh well on to El Pescador. Continue reading

Return of the Natural Cafe
Hey everybody, it was a long weekend for me so I’m gonna keep this post short and sweet. Today, I decided to hit up the Natural Cafe in Thousand Oaks. It’s got a totally different vibe from the Simi location, which is nice. Plus, where else can you see a skinny, hippy lookin’ white kid go from eating vegan food to rollin’ a Range Rover on dubs in 2.5 seconds. Gotta love T.O. Continue reading

Hells Kitchen and the Chicken Nugget
So on Hells Kitchen we lost another weak chef. Another 8 weak chefs to go. Coi goes home in another exchange with Chef Ramsey that leaves the weaker cook on the line. Coi was a weak chef, but Andrea does more damage to a brigade. Andrea acts like a leader and attempts to lead. The problem with being a weak chef and trying to be a leader is that nobody respects you, or follows you, and you just end up looking like an ass. Andrea is way to weak to lead. I still argue that the majority of these chefs are weak. The few good cooks keep quiet, trying to stay off Ramsey’s radar. Not enough crying and misery in this episode. Ramsey needs to step it up. Meat Locker for the masses.
Today I had the opportunity to finally visit one of Thousand Oaks most revered BBQ restaurants: The Thousand Oaks Meat Locker. Unbeknown to me, this little shack is within walking distance of my Mom’s place. I had no idea. It took me two attempts to find this place today, and I had a google map. It’s a little restaurant and you can only read the sign from right in front, which makes it hard for people who drive (i.e. Everyone in L.A.) to find it. Continue reading

Hungry Howies Pizza – Flavored Crusts
So Brian came by the house the other night to hang with my boy and I and we decided to take on pizza number 2. We are not only going to various pizza joints around the county and beyond, but we are also going to have pizzas delivered, in order to give you guys a good idea of where the best pizza can be found. As we mentioned in our first article on pizza, B. and I will both score the pizza individually and then add our scores to give the pizza a grand total. Then the pizza will be placed on our pizza chart where you will be able to see where it compares to the rest of the pizzas we have sampled thus far.
Remember the 5 points of pizza scoring: crust, sauce, toppings, cheese, and overall. On to Hungry Howie’s… Continue reading

The town that time forgot.
I don’t know about you, but I really like finding places off the beaten path. Places where the buildings haven’t been updated since the 40s or 50s, but you can’t tell because everything surrounding them never changed either. For those of you who don’t know, Santa Paula, California, is one of those places.
I stumbled upon this small town a couple months back, while attempting to find an inspiring spot to take some pictures. When I saw Santa Paula Coffee Company, I was in desperate need of a caffeine boost. However, what I experienced there that Saturday afternoon has changed the way I look at coffee shops as a whole. I know that we primarily do restaurant reviews on EatMeCalifornia, but this little place made such an impression on me that I simply couldn’t leave it out. Continue reading

Where for art thou Steak Kings?
Do you guys remember when Sizzler and Black Angus used to be the kings of steak and potato’s? If you wanted steak and shrimp with a baked potato those were the places you would go. Sizzler had that great cheese toast. I used to think there was crack in that cheese crust and I could never get enough of it. Sizzler has fallen a long way down. It was once a proud steak house where the people got together for a killer salad bar, great steaks and even great fried shrimp. Fresh baked potato’s covered in butter and sour cream made it the best all-you-can-eat joint around. Who doesn’t remember all you can eat night at the Sizzler? Continue reading
