Deadliest Catch – No Second Chances

by Mikey

We left off last week with a 40 ft wave crashing into the Wizard while they were trying to put the tarp over the front pots.  The wave consumed the front of the ship and the deck hands all disappeared into white water.  We were left wondering if anyone was hurt, or even worse, swept off the ship.

Cue Bon Jovi and do your best Captain Sig “I’m on the crab” celebration…….. Continue reading

Deadliest Catch – Payback time!

by Mikey

The 2009 opilio crab season is beginning.   It’s winter in the Bering Sea and this is when Deadliest Catch is at its deadliest.  For those of you who are on your first season of the Catch, this is the time of year in the Bering Sea where the ocean is at its roughest, the winds are at their strongest, and the weather is at its coldest.  As the water and rain hit the boat it freezes to the entire outside of the ship.  Even the ocean spray freezes immediately to the pots and the deck.  You will see the crews constantly hammering ice off the ships because as we all know when water freezes, much like me after a Vegas buffet, it gets damn heavy.

Our Own Little Kitchen Nightmare.

by Brian

Mikey and I started this blog mostly because we were bored and unemployed.  Now we’re neither.  In the interim we’ve managed to eat some good food, some not so good food, and meet a ton of really cool people.

Thanks to one of our readers, Michelle of ThePeevery.com, we might even get our 15 minutes of fame.  You see, Michelle is an avid yelper and is just generally pissed off about a lot of things (probably because she’s about to pop out a kid any day now).  One of the things that really got her going was her experience at Mama Rita’s in Newbury Park and the producers of a certain Gordon Ramsey fronted show found her review and invited her to come to Mama Rita’s Grand Re-opening.  She was gracious enough to invite Mikey and myself to the fun and it was all down hill from there.  Continue reading

Deadliest Catch – Down to the Wire

by Mikey

We are in the final week of the king crab season and the boats are all scrambling to make their quotas before the market prices drop too low.  The Time Bandit finished up last week, meeting their quota.  The rest of the fleet has one last week to get on the crab.

Deadliest Catch – Deadline

by Mikey

So with the absence of Hells Kitchen and Brian’s new devotion to teaching the homeless how to make origami swans, I have now taken over the Deadliest Catch report.  Sorry (mommom1) your attempts to have me banned from writing have only worked in Tularosa, New Mexico and don’t get a big head, they just went along with you because I once said Tularosa smells like mayonnaise.  On to Deadliest Catch!

This episode labeled “Deadline” marks the last few days of king crab season. Up next is the Opilio season, which is an awesome time to watch this show.  If you missed the first part of the season it’s a great time to jump on.

Hell’s Kitchen Finale!

by Mikey

Beware.  There be spoilers ahead!

We have finally reached the end for Season 5 of Hell’s Kitchen and I gotta say, it’s about time.  This has been a rough season to watch, mostly because of the lack of talent and the abundance of the mentally challenged.  Let’s kick it off with a recap of last week.

I’ve learned my lesson with Hells Kitchen and didn’t bother posting a Hell’s Kitchen article last week.  Knowing ahead of time that they always do the most to stretch it out, I thought it would be a wasted article and as usual (except for the time I jumped that rod iron fence in baggy shorts) I was right.

In the first part of the season finale Danny and Paula begin to design their restaurants.  Paula is going for more of a bistro, while Danny seems to be leaning towards Danny’s fish and beer. Continue reading

Deadliest Catch – Long Haul, Short Fuses

by Mikey

We are steamin’ through King crab season and this episode, appropriately named, shows the stress and the strain of being stuck with the same dudes working a 36 hour shift.

Can you imagine having to work side by side with that guy in the office that likes to quote lines from Spaceballs, or the dude that finishes every sentence with, “Can I get a what what?” Continue reading
