The Latigo Kid – A Pre Canyon Club Tradition

by Brian

We do a lot of Mexican food reviews on this site.  So many that I’m kinda getting tired of Mexican food.  I ate at the Latigo Kid over a week a go, but just didn’t really feel like writing it up, mostly because we’ve had better reviews that needed to be posted.  Still, it’s only fair that I give this place their shot at EatMeCalifornia infamy.  Plus it’s great material for a lazy Sunday evening.

The Latigo Kid – Next to the Canyon Club, Kanan exit off the 101 freeway.

So, I had never been to this place before.  But I had always seen tons of people coming out if it before making their way next door to party at Canyon Club.  For those of you who don’t know, Canyon Club is the best place to catch all of your favorite 80s bands that have no business still touring, yet continue to do so anyway.  They also have a great 80s coverband called the Spazmatics, that performs every Thursday night.  If you go on a Thursday, you’re guaranteed to have a good time.  But this isn’t a review of the Canyon Club, so I’ll leave it at that.

The Latigo Kid is a decent sized place, despite the fact that it looks tiny from the parking lot.  The decor is your standard Mexican restaurant fare, except the fact that they have some cool murals painted on the walls.  The vibe is pretty low-key and not as raucous as Los Toros in Chatsworth. Willy’s Smokehouse – A New Favorite Emerges

by Brian

Hey, everybody!  Sorry for the lack of recent updates.  Mikey and I have been slackin’ on our pimpin’ over the past few days, livin’ it up and enjoying the good life.  But don’t you worry; we’ve also been eating some good stuff and will be writing all about it this week.

Coming up, we’ve got some fine Italian food, a new episode of The Catch, a pizza that might be our highest scoring ever and some authentic Mexican cuisine.  But for tonight’s post, I’ve got the latest and greatest BBQ in our area.

Willy’s Smokehouse – Just off the 101 at Chesebro, in Agoura Hills.

For those of you who don’t know, we’ve been doing quite a bit of BBQ lately.  We’ve had good experiences and bad, but I think Willy’s has emerged as my latest favorite.

Willy’s is a small place, right beside the freeway, and if you’re not looking for it you’ll drive right past.  That would be a huge mistake though, because the barbeque is as down-home and delicious as you’ll find anywhere in L.A.

I originally heard about this place through a friend who works there.  Usually I take these kinds of recommendations with a grain of salt because, as an employee, he or she has a vested interest in the restaurant doing well.  So I looked it up on a few of the rating sites and verified the legitimacy of Willy’s.  It checked out, so I decided to check it out.

Patio

My friend and I rolled up at around 7:30pm on a Tuesday night.  It wasn’t too crowded, which made me think that either a lot of people still don’t know about it, or they just can’t find it, call off the search and settle for the Wood Ranch down the street.  Fine by me.  It was a nice night, so we snagged a booth outside on the patio and started looking over the menu.  Continue reading

Why Does Every Deli Have To Be A Famous Deli?

by Brian

After some much needed R & R, Mikey and I are back, giving you more of what you need:  Lowered expectations Great food reviews.  We had an awesome trip to San Francisco and have a couple good reviews for you guys to sink your teeth into.  The good stuff will be coming up later this week.  I’ll be the first to admit that today’s review is a bit of a filler.  From the title of this post, you’ve probably figured out that this post is going to be about a deli.  I’ve been reviewing a lot of these places lately and I’ve noticed that they all have one thing in common.  They seem to think they’re famous.

I think these delis are famous in the way that reality TV contestants are famous.  Which is to say, not famous at all.  With the exception of Jerry’s Famous Deli, I think that they need to have their permission to use the word “famous” revoked.  It just sets the expectations too high, and when they don’t follow through, I’m crushed.  I think that from now on, if I go to a “famous” deli and the food ain’t up to par, I will insist that they change there name to insert name here‘s overrated deli.  But, enough of me on my soapbox, let’s make with the review already.
